About Us

University of Washington

Sara is an Associate Professor at the Paul Allen School of Computer Science and Engineering at University of Washington (UW). Sara’s research focuses on developing and applying machine learning and statistical methods to study human diseases. Most recently, the lab has been applying these methods to understand immune response(s) across different contexts, mechanisms of psychiatric disorders, and causes of rare genetic diseases in children. Sara is especially interested in developing models for combining association evidence across multiple types of molecular/genomoics data, such as gene expression and genotype data, and modeling prior biological pathways and networks for disentangling spurious from meaningful correlations.

To develop methods that lead to new biological insights, Sara’s group works closely with colleagues from varied disciplines, including immunology, neuroscience, genetics, psychiatry, and psychology.
